Isa and Tijn are sitting in the waiting room of the Scheper Hospital with their large hug bears. They themselves are not bothered by anything, but their hugs, on the other hand, do. “The elephant has a broken arm,” says Isa. Tijn’s rabbit has a similar problem. “He has a broken leg.”
The children’s poly clinic of the hospital has today been transformed into a cuddle bears hospital. “By letting children come to the hospital with their hug bear, we give them a positive experience in the hospital,” explains co-assistant Eline van den Berg. “Because of this we hope that they will leave with a good feeling. If they have to go to the hospital themselves, they will hopefully have a better feeling about it.”
The hugs of Isa and Tijn are first examined by the doctor. Then they have to take X -rays with the radiologist. It appears that elephant and rabbit have broken their feet. Fortunately they can go straight to the plaster room, where both hugs, with the help of Isa and Tijn, are provided with plaster.
During the Hugs Day in the hospital, more than seventy children come along with their hugs. The day is organized by the CO Council of Treant. “A group of co-assistants who like to organize some things, in addition to the coses they run.” This is how we help organize education, but we also arrange the Knuffelber Hospital. I really like that. “
With elephant and rabbit it will be all right, but they still have to take it easy. “He is not allowed to be on his leg for six weeks,” says Isa.
