Acts that charge your music with anti -Semitic codes have a hard time on the market. At least they want to make you do that. Why actually? Anti -Semitism Sells! The removed white rapper Macklemore is the best evidence.
Since the attack by Hamas on October 7th, 2023, the Middle East conflict has also laid over the colorful pop world like a curse. Of course, one should know that he has always played a role there-and above all through the BDS (a global boycott campaign against Israel, which is classified as anti-Semitic in Germany), sometimes pulled and continues. This movement enjoys great support, especially in the Anglo-American music scene. And their consequences act as a booster. If you want to mark yourself as links and progressively, you like to decorate yourself with a Kufiya or-somewhat more subtle-your social media profiles with the emoji of the Palestinian flag. And there is still one underneath: to swim just as Ally, the mere symbol of a watermelon is enough. It stands for the cause of the Palestinians and was prominently found by a pin in 2024 that Billie Eilish wore at the Oscars (the first Oscars after the Hamas massacre, among other things, an entire music festival).
But with all such well -desired virtue signaling, it should be clear that the topic of the Middle East is particularly explosive and irreconcilable. And it is also an ever increasing factor in the international music industry. Many Israeli or Jewish acts have been suffering since October 7th. increased under performance cancellations. The musician Noga Erez made this practice public in a viral announcement that said that she was unloaded by various festivals: “It’s not for anyding that I Said, it’s Simply Because I was born where i was born. “
Often such cancellations are not spoken out of conviction (which should this be in the case of noga?), Rather, fears are being targeted by networks such as the BDS if they do not meet their boycott call calls. These conditions have become a problem for Israeli or even Israeli -solidar acts.

The other way around, the requirements differ significantly. An English music manager describes his impression at last year’s Glastonbury Festival in England: “We went to the backstage area and wherever I looked, I was greeted with Palestinian flags, it was like a mania.” Or the Sleaford Mods, which were so harassed by parts of the audience in autumn 2023 at a concert in Madrid to swing a Palestinian cloth to stop their own concert.
And if you want to be successful on the market, you have to read the market. This is how the commercial music business has always worked. No wonder that a decommissioned act such as Macklemore was looking for. He obviously succeeded – and (unfortunately you have to endure that much dystopia) he will certainly not remain the only one.
Instead of complaining about it, I prefer to attach a small moody manual to his upswing. I wrote it with a little wink (read: pissed off in the beam).
Disclaimer: Before it starts … With all the mockery for and disgusting before the fatal impulses of Macklemore, I would like to state that this type also basically seems to be working for oppressed. This is definitely an important attitude. And both Israelis and Palestinians need support in these blatant times. Only that support should not want to stir up hatred and split even more. Of course, you can also rate all of this completely differently, which follows here but is my view of the phenomenon of Macklemore and beyond.
Knick vs. Kick
To need a career kick, of course you need a kink. And Macklemore has a lot to offer here. His album Ben from the summer of 2023 was an official flop. If the predecessor album in Germany had made it into the top ten, it was already 37 for Ben. It also fell out of the local charts after a single week. The decline in his home country USA. The 2017 Gemini album remained in the top 100 for 39 weeks and received a platinum award for sales. Ben from 2023, on the other hand, kept – as in Germany – only one week in the charts. Career-Knick Deluxe! This is also confirmed in this email, I received her from a colleague from the MusikExpress editorial team-on February 6, 2023 at 17:32:
“Hi Linus, An agency offers Macklemore for an interview in Berlin next week. In my perception he is full of the Has-Been-or do you see it differently and want to do something there? Kind regards!”
I didn’t see it any other way – to be honest, I now find that I didn’t even answer this email. Oops, sorry! However, there was no further demand from the colleague who was already disinterested. Congratulations: So that with a career kink is accomplished here.
I BIMS 1 Middle East expert!
Now it applies. If the current music of an aging party apper (largest hit 2012 “Thrift Store”) no more itches today, you have to keep up with it somewhere else. In spring 2024, Macklemore pushes a stand-alone single in the spring of 2024. “Hind’s Hall” stipulates the highly complex Middle East conflict for a populist, one -sided story. Drive the algorithms and the post -factual presence – who is surprised? – Of course fully on the number and bring the already filed rapper back from the sinking. He tries to preserve this new meaning immediately and soon sends a continuation of this song into the race. “Hind’s Hall 2”, so that everyone can get it.
Never again war
Very unironous: The song title “Hind’s Hall” refers to a five -year -old child who was killed in an Israeli attack. It’s about giving sacrifices a face, the real drama to be removed from statistics. Just like the Hersh murdered at the Nova Festival and murdered in the Hamas tunnels under Rafah after a year of captivity, Hind is an innocent victim. And every dead man too much. End this was!
Conspiracy theories? Always good!
The rebel is always more attractive in pop than the keeper. Therefore it helps not to state that after 7.10. The distribution of the hashtag #Freepalestine around twenty to fifty times the #westandwithisrael exceeded. TikKOK and social media in particular are still a toxic playground for Intifadafluencer. If you are looking for Pro-Palestinian or anti-Semitic Takes, you will find more than forking. Often even if you are not looking for it … but in order to restart as a rebel, the assertion must first be that what you have to say is not desired by “the elites”. Macklemore builds his speaker position as a white savior on exactly this conspiracy theory in his songs: “You can pay off meta / but you can’t pay off me” or “You can ban tik Tok / take out the algorithm / but it’s too late”. Banned by dark powers instead of being out of view because of the disinterest of the audience? This is how a shoe comes out of it: do the Macklemore!
credibility
However, it could have a shell in activist circles if a white rapper simply roams a popular struggle. It is therefore helpful to do something for your own credibility. The rap-Salesman, which presents us with that complex conflict surprisingly easily, also needs a good backstory. No problem, people. For example, Macklemore can fall back on a scandal of ten years ago. At a concert in Seattle, he provoked with a cladding that consisted of defaming, Jewish stereotypes (large hook nose included, see title photo here). At that time he still denied the anti -Semitic intention of his costume. The Jewish actor and comedian Seth Rogen did not take this off at the time and ended the Twitter conflict with the mocking sentence at the time: “First you want to believe people, you are a rapper, now they should take away you that you are a Jew?”
And More on this here read.
Trump up
As in the war, no consideration can also be taken on collateral damage in pop. Macklemore, with his two “Hind’s Hall” songs, became an amplifier for the pro-Palestinian protesters at the American universities (whose commitment is not exactly free from anti-Semitism). His text works on the Democrats – to Joe Biden and, after that as a candidate, to Kamala Harris: “Blood is on your hands bids / I’m not voting for you in the case!” as well as “Kamala Stop Singing Money and Weapons / Or You not Winning Michigan”.
Michigan? Wait … that’s one of the notorious US Swing statesone of those places where the presidential election also decided in 2024. To the disadvantage of the democrat Harris. It was used by characters such as Macklemore for their own revolutionary profile sharpening and branded as insignificant. The fact that Trump was paved the path, which then immediately made great hardness against the student protests and shocked the “idea” of a commercial use of Gaza with the “idea” of the humanity. Macklemore makes it possible.
Hide
Incidentally, Macklemores Wordsreich’s Middle East conflict naturally manages without terms such as Hamas, hostages, seventh October. Why was there anything?
Fade in
For this purpose, of course, it takes all the more word bell. The best authoritarian buzzwords that do not leave any room for exchange. A little bit Colonize, genocide, intifada, white supremacy And similarly Freshe terms that have been shouted onto Tikok. Crucial for the social media rap warrior of the present time: the texts of early slime boards, on the other hand, should sound like a very differentiated presentation. If this is not the case, you probably still have too much reflection. Our power animal Macklemore would certainly not like to see that!
Meme lord
And suddenly you are again who in the meme game.

Back 4 Good
Well, it works. Career-Knick Over. Macklemore is again who and, for example, even in Germany, in addition to Deichkind, Paula Hartmann or Kiz, is booked to this year’s dike fire festival. Congratulations. And should it be difficult with bookings because of its diverse oil-in-fire activities … How about this year’s ESC? There, as you can see this year, you always have an open ear for Israel -hatred, uh, criticism!
