Stefan Raab actually wanted to make the ESC “a top priority” – but now it almost seems as if Stefan Raab didn’t want to contribute to the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 as he used to do. While the duo Abor & Tynna in Basel makes the final preparations for the ESC final, Raab seems to be consciously back. For example, he dispenses with a photo together.
In the spring, Raab presented the Duo Großspurig as a new hope for Germany-elected as part of its own TV show and with the blessing of ARD and RTL. But now everything sounds like a withdrawal with an announcement. On Swiss television, Raab emphasized soberly: “This time I neither participated in production nor compositionally. Abor & tynna as a German ESC hope I only gave tips and told you which song you should take.” The message is therefore clear: he does not want to be liable for a possible failure.
Abor & Tynna have to convince alone
Stefan Raab has so far remained at a distance in Basel. At an embassy reception, he gives a short speech, then he disappears from the stage before a picture with the artists can be created. Instead, the 58-year-old with megafon is running through the city center of Basel, crashes a concert and calls for the ESC vote-much to displeasure a local band that feels his action as disrespectful. “In 2010 it was still cool, today it is only embarrassing,” says comments under a post from the band. Some even demand that he should finally leave the ESC behind.
Stefan Raab: Has the entertainer overestimated?
When Raab was at the ESC with Lena Meyer-Landrut in 2010, it looked very different. He was constantly on the side of the singer and also appeared with her at press conferences. If the duo does not reach a good place for Germany on Saturday (May 17th), Raab will probably already have the guilty one – the audience. Because that too, he emphasizes, has chosen Abor & Tynna.
