In the death of David Lynch, a memory in Cannes could not be missing. The director had received the Golden Palm for “Wild at Heart” here in 1990 and was also represented with several films, including “Mulholland Drive” (Palme for the Best Director).
On Wednesday (May 14th) celebrated “Welcome to Lynchland” by Stéphane Ghez a new documentary about the artist, musician and filmmaker world premiere. The film was completed on January 16 before the director’s death.
The documentary tries to go into Lynch’s world of ideas and circles from his early films to the glorious “Twin Peaks” return. You can see not only interview sections with the director, but also discussions with Kyle Maclachlan, Laura Dern, Naomi Watts and Isabella Rossellini.
Son of David Lynch at premiere
The son of the deceased director, Riley Lynch, was at the demonstration and spoke a few words about the audience. “This festival means a lot to my father,” he said. Lynch’s son also revealed that he was last at the Croisette in 2002 when his father was a jury president. “I celebrated my 10th birthday here and Sharon Stone brought the cake.”
Immediately after Lynch’s death, the Cannes Film Festival published a statement. In it it was said:
“With endless grief we learned about David Lynch’s death, a unique and visionary artist whose work shaped the cinema like hardly any other. As winners of the Golden Palm at the film festival in 1990 for ‘Sailor and Lula’ (‘Wild at Heart’) and the Prix de la Mise en Scène (Best Director) for ‘Mulholland Drive’ He elegantly the jury in 2002.
David Lynch also appreciated Rolling Stone after his death:
