Emmanuel Kundé, long -time captain of the national team of Cameroon, is dead. The former defender died surprisingly at the age of 68, as Association President Samuel Eto’o confirmed on Friday. According to matching media reports, Kundé died in his house in a suburb of Jaunde in the night from Thursday to Friday.

Forming figure in Cameroonian football

Kundé played 102 caps for Cameroon and scored 17 goals. At the 1990 World Cup in Italy, in which a legendary camera team around Kundé and attacker Roger Milla surprised with strong performances, he met in the dramatic quarter-finals against England by penalty to compensate-the game ended 2: 3 after extension. In Africa, he won the Africa Cup with the “unambious lions” in 1984 and 1988.

Eto’o praised the deceased on Instagram as the “symbolic figure of Cameroonian football”. Kundé was a “fantastic footballer” – both as a duel -strong defender and as a playful player in midfield.
