Finally, Max Verstappen went on a jaunt on the Nürburgring. This now brings him clear criticism from an ex-racing driver.

Ralf Schumacher criticized Max Verstappen for his excursion at the Nürburgring. “If I were his team boss, I would have asked him if he still has all the cups in his closet,” said the former Formula 1 driver in the Sky Podcast “Backstage pit lane”.

Ralf Schumacher could not understand that Verstappen could be carried away to drive on the Nordschleife of all people. The brother of racing legend Michael Schumacher clearly: “I don’t find it so cheap to do this on the Nordschleife. I know that many don’t like it for it, but I find the Nordschleife incredibly dangerous.”

Which does the 49-year-old actually not wrong. In 1976, for example, Niki Lauda had a difficult time on the legendary race track, suffered serious burns and almost paid the accident with his life.

No Formula 1 races have long been held at the Nürburgring. The racing series only returned there in 2020, but not to the Nordschleife. At the Grand Prix of the Eifel, Lewis Hamilton was able to win for Mercedes. Verstappen was second.

Ralf Schumacher now explained to the dangerous route: “The DTM was prohibited earlier because it was too fast and now the GT3 cars are incredibly fast. Something quickly happened.” A use in the GT3 car is actually okay, he could understand that. “But why did it have to be the Nordschleife?” Said the expert.
