To make the construction of the southern bowl run smoothly, Rijkswaterstaat wants to create more workspace. That is why exit 5 must be closed from the direction of Haarlem. Motorists who come from that side can turn at Ouderkerk on the Amstel and take exit 5 on the other side.

“If you emphasize well outside ‘Amstelveen remains easily accessible’, I also expect those customers to come.”

‘It’s being a chaos’

Rijkswaterstaat has set aside an amount of 1 million euros for a package of measures to keep the city center accessible. This concerns traffic measures and mobility measures, such as stimulating public transport use. Together with the entrepreneurs, she wants to see in the coming period what this package will look like.

Chairman of the Association of Center Ondernemers (VCP) Marco Mulders is not convinced. “It will be a chaos,” he thinks. Mulders expects that the A9 at Ouderkerk is not calculated on the extra traffic supply that should turn towards Amstelveen.

Rijkswaterstaat thinks it can prevent that chaos by, for example, adjusting traffic lights in such a way that they stay green for longer. “We have calculated that the Amstelveen road network can handle it.” During the most important period for entrepreneurs – around Christmas – the exit will be open for three weeks.
