The closure of the narrow church bridge is needed for the redesign of the center area. That project started early this year and will be implemented in seven phases. Until July it is the turn of the area around the bridge.
“It is a narrow bridge and spicy equipment is being used,” a spokesperson for the municipality of Oud-Amstel explains to NH why cyclists are at risk. “But only during the day. ‘In the evening and during the weekend, the bridge is not closed, because then there will not be work.”
‘Trying to come by anyway
Until recently, there were only traffic controllers to point out motorists and cyclists to the diversion routes. “But that resulted in quite a few discussions with traffic controllers,” said the spokesperson. “We don’t close bridge to bully people, but some people tried to pass by.”
