The slalom world loses two professionals. In addition to Sebastian Foss-Solevåg, Cédric Noger also stops.
The Norwegian slalom world champion Sebastian Foss-Solevåg has ended his active career. On Instagram, the 33-year-old explained in an emotional post: “I devoted my entire childhood and all of my adult life to the goal of becoming the world’s best in the slalom. Now it is time to do something else.”
Foss-Solevåg crowned himself world champion in slalom in Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2021, cheered a year later in his special discipline over the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing. He also reaches two victories in the World Cup (in Flachau and Madonna di Campiglio). “Forever, I am grateful for all the memories I made and the friendships that I will wear with myself for a lifetime,” he continued.
The camaraderie in the Norwegian team in particular contributed to “that I could realize my dream of becoming slalom world champion”. And further: “It is not a matter of course that a boy from Ålesund makes it to the world leaders of the alpine skiing-and I am proud of that,” Foss-Solevåg also thanked his family.
He does not yet know how E continues for him. Foss-Solevåg emphasized, however, to look forward to the upcoming chapter: “To my better half, Elin-you were so patient, supported me and helped me with the most difficult emotional moments. Now we can finally relax and spend more time together.” In the past season, Foss-Solevåg only qualified once for the second run.
Meanwhile, Cédric Noger also announced his end of his career. On Instagram, the 32-year-old explained in a video: “I could no longer spark my inner fire in order to be able to go to my limits.” In the future, he will act as a coach in the youth area.
The Swiss drove its best World Cup result in the giant slalom of Kranjskara Gora in 2019, Noger finished 4th behind Podest debutant Marco Odermatt. In 2022 three years later he contracted a lower leg fracture of the shin and calf leg and lost the squad status at Swiss-Ski.
