The new Formula 1 team Cadillac has not yet announced its driver pairing for the coming season. Former F1 team boss Günther Steiner knows who he would choose.
If Günther Steiner had to slip into the role of team boss and select a driver duo for the Cadillac project, which started in 2026, his former protégé Mick Schumacher would go away empty-handed. “For me, the ideal team Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez would be. I would bring the two into the team,” said the South Tyrolean in the Podcast “F1 Explains”.
The former Haas team boss explained: “If I were Cadillac, I would (…) rely on experienced drivers. In a young team, it is best to get experience of people who have already managed to get the team going to get the team going to faster than the rookies.”
The Finn Bottas, ten-time Grand Prix winner, drove to clean until the end of last season. In winter he returned to Mercedes as a replacement driver. The Mexican Perez, six -time racing winner in the premier class, had to clear his place in the Red Bull after four years alongside Max Verstappen. Both only had to sit out for a year with a comeback.
Perez in particular has the best cards on a comeback, according to information from RTL/NTV and sport.de there was even an agreement. Cadillac director Mario Andretti did not want to officially confirm the personnel yet. “All I can say is that he is certainly one of the drivers we consider,” the American remained vague recently.
Steiner does not believe in Schumacher comeback
According to reports, Mick Schumacher is also on the Cadillac’s list of candidates. An approximation between Schumacher and the new racing team already took place around the Miami Grand Prix when the 26-year-old appeared at a team’s launch party.
Mick Schumacher made it into Formula 1 in 2021 under Günther Steiner at the US team Haas. However, he could only stay there for a total of two years. In the meantime he drives for Alpine in the long -distance world championship.
“It will be difficult,” Steiner had possible comeback chances in Formula 1 in early March in an exclusive interview with RTL/NTV and sport.de emphasizes: “If you don’t drive for a long time, and this year many seats were free, then it will somehow difficult to get back in there.”
