Leverkusen annoyed Bayern last year, now the “punishment” of the record champion follows. At least a well -known transfer pattern is revealed.
Borussia Dortmund had to experience it a little more than a decade ago, now it looks like Bayer Leverkusen will meet: The best players leave the club after great success and will be up for the worst competitor FC Bayern in the future.
While Wirtz is still open whether it will change this summer or only next year – FC Bayern is considered a favorite – the departure of Tahs after his contract has expired. With him, too, the goal is FC Bayern.
In all, one transfer pattern of Bavaria is likely to be repeated: Dortmund had won two championships in a row at the time and the DFB Cup, Leverkusen, as is well known, drove the double last season. And thus scratched the supremacy of the record champions. The result: The best players of the competition are now being welcomed to Munich.
“It is Bayern Munich’s strategy that you not only strengthen yourself, but also weaken the direct competition,” said the former Bavaria and BVB coach Ottmar Hitzfeld 2014 after the BVB: “And Dortmund is the big competitor. Therefore, the clear tactic is.”
Even if ex-manager Uli Hoeneß denied this at the time and said that FC Bayern might have done earlier, Leverkusen does not meet the tactics mentioned by Hitzfeld for the first time. After the 2001/02 season, when Bayer in League, Cup and Champions League each finished second, the Münchner had two cornerstones with Michael Ballack and Zé Roberto. The following year, defense ace Lucio followed.
Shortly afterwards, Werder Bremen swung himself up to Bavaria’s worst adversary in the Bundesliga. The result: A year after the Bremen Double season (2004), defender Valérien Ismaël changed from the Weser to the Isar. Miroslav Klose (2007) and Tim Borowski (2008) followed.
Even when RB Leipzig became runner-up under Julian Nagelsmann in 2021 and became a serious competition, FC Bayern quickly opened the box and signed the RB performers Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer for a total of 57.5 million euros-and on top of that, the successful trainer, which was cost the record amount of 25 million euros.
Due to the fact that Wirtz and Tah are two regular players of the national team, which the current national coach Nagelsmann wants to build his eleven for the 2026 World Cup, another credo propagated by Klub-Patron Hoeneß comes into play. According to his taste, the scaffolding of the national team should always consist of FC Bayern players.
After the resignations of Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller, there were recently “only” Bayern professionals in the 23-seater squad at the National League duel against Italy. With Tah and Wirtz’s obligations, you would have beaten several birds with one stone: the competition weakened, your own team enormously strengthened and a higher presence in the DFB team regained.
