The continuation of 150 branches of the Kodi discounter with around 1,200 employees is understood.
An investor: Inner consortium around the previous Kodi shareholder Richard Nölle takes over the assets of the insolvent company based in Oberhausen retrospectively on April 1, 2025. The branches should continue to run under the Kodi brand. This solution had already emerged at the end of March.
“After clarification of the last details, the members of the creditor: Interior committee approved the takeover,” it said.
80 Kodi branches are not taken over by the new investors. 480 employees and 40 others in the headquarters have already been terminated. The sale is running. It should be completed at the end of May, at the latest at the latest at the latest.
However, there were still discussions with possible investors: inside that individuals of these branches took over and then wanted to continue under another brand, it said. The company did not say which locations could be.
Insolvency proceedings open on March 1st
Kodi Discontläden GmbH had applied for a protective shield procedure in November – due to impending insolvency and over -indebtedness. According to their own statements, the reasons for the imbalance were the customer’s retention of purchase as well as significantly increased costs – for example for energy, freight and advertising. The Duisburg District Court opened the proceedings on March 1, 2025 as an insolvency proceedings in self -administration. The retail company, founded in 1981, based in Oberhausen, mainly sells household goods and drugstore. It is particularly represented in North Rhine-Westphalia.
