The Ministry of Defense counts on the knowledge of researchers from the University of Applied Sciences and that of the students. Attacking on the computer systems of other countries are increasingly common, it is a new form of waging war. Opponents hope to paralyze weapon systems and critical infrastructure. At Howest in Bruges they have a lot of knowledge about computer crime and that is why they are now working together with Defense.
“We have a unique bachelor’s degree in cyber security,” says Frederik d’Hulster van Howest.
“Next year we will have more than 500 students of more than fifty nationalities. That means that we have a wonderful talent pool with young talent that comes on the labor market. Of course, the Ministry of Defense also has a piece of ears.”
