On Sunday, 13 FC Bayern players traveled to Ibiza. A controversial trip, to which Lothar Matthäus also has his own opinion.

A week ago, FC Bayern players had planned a trip to Ibiza in the event that they would become champions in Leipzig. At that time, sports director Max Eberl had forbidden the trip. “We heard about it, discussed with the team yesterday and said: that doesn’t belong. The team understood that. Therefore: no trip,” said Eberl at Sky.

The 50-year-old had explained at the time: “Even if we are already champions, there are other clubs who are still fighting.”

Now Bavaria was not mastered in Leipzig, so the question did not arise. On Sunday, one day after the shell was handed over after the home win against Gladbach, 13 players from the club traveled to Ibiza. Eberl explained: “Last week there were still many decisions in the league that our results had on influence. The constellation is now different, so we do not have contradicted the project of the players to spend their two and a half days of days together,” he said when asked by Sky.

A decision that Lothar Matthew cannot understand. In his Sky column, the 1990 world champion wrote: “Three years ago, FC Bayern players flew to Ibiza after the early winning win, although the season was not over. I see the current Ibiza short trip as almost worse because the club had banned it to players last week.”

Especially with a view to the sporty remaining program on the last matchday on Saturday at TSG Hoffenheim (from 3:30 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online), the campaign sends a bad signal.

“If Bavaria were playing against a team on Saturday, for whom nothing more was about, it might not care, but Hoffenheim is not yet saved,” emphasized Matthew. Although the Kraichgauer are 16 points ahead and a significantly better goal difference than Heidenheim (currently 16th), the starting position is not certain.

Through the trip, he also sees the position of Max Eberl weakened, the sports director had moved into a significant position after the 3: 3 in Leipzig. “He said that the players should concentrate on their core business. But what was banned last week does the team now,” wrote Matthäus: “Eberl gives an unfortunate picture again in the external image (…).”
