Neu-Delhi (dpa-AfX)-India’s military, according to his own presentation, killed more than 100 “terrorists” a few days ago in his air strikes on destinations in Pakistan and in Pakistanically controlled part of Kashmir. Among them are also said to have been managers of extremist organizations that are held responsible for attacks in India. They died in the destruction of nine terrorist institutions, said the head of military operations, Rajiv Ghai, in the evening in Neu-Delhi.
With a view to the attacks on Wednesday, Ghai continued: “We achieved our goals and all of our pilots returned home.” How many fighter jets were used, he did not say. Ghai named the names of supposedly killed members of the Islamist groups Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-E-Taiba, which classifies India as terrorist organizations. Ghais information cannot be checked independently.
Reaction to attack
The attacks were a reaction to a terrorist attack in the Indian -controlled part of Kashmir on April 22, in which 26 people – predominantly Indian tourists – were killed. The government in Neu-Delhi accuses Pakistan, Islamabad rejects this.
After the Indian military campaign, there were battles in the border regions and mutual air raids. On Saturday, both countries surprisingly announced a ceasefire. India, however, accused the neighboring country of several violations of the fire break a few hours later, which Pakistan immediately rejected.
According to Ghai, there were battles along the western border until Sunday morning. In the further course of the day, however, it remained calm. On Monday, leading military of both nuclear powers want to talk about the implementation of the ceasefire. Since their independence, both countries have waged several wars against each other, also about cashmere./dg/dp/zb
