TSG Hoffenheim has again missed the early rescue in the Bundesliga. After a turbulent 2: 2 (1: 1) in Friday evening game at VfL Wolfsburg, the table-14 can. However, only theoretically fall back on the relegation relegation place. The lead in 16th place is now six points and nine goals. If the 1. FC Heidenheim does not win at Union Berlin on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky), Hoffenheim’s relegation would be perfect on this penultimate matchday.
Last week, TSG only conceded the 4: 4 equalization in Mönchengladbach in added time. This time, defender Leo Østigård hit his own goal after 18 seconds after preparatory work by Mohammed Amoura. In this Bundesliga season, only one goal was scored earlier: Jamal Musiala from Bayern Munich scored after 15 seconds on matchday 3rd against Holstein Kiel.
But the team of coach Christian Ilzer, who was fighting for his continued employment, fought back twice in this game. Pavel Kaderabek scored 1-1 (34th) before the break. And after the second Wolfsburg goal by Jonas Wind (81st) it only lasted three minutes before Marius Bülter (84th) equalized again.
After a dedicated performance, everything looks like the Hoffenheimers made it in time to stop their crash from the Europa League participant to relegation candidate in this chaotic season. At VfL, on the other hand, the sporting crisis continues even after the separation of coach Ralph Hasenhüttl.
The Bundesliga debut of the U19 coach Daniel Bauer ended with the ninth game without a win in a row. Already against the other relegation candidates Holstein Kiel (2: 2), VfL Bochum (1: 1), FC St. Pauli (1: 1) and 1. FC Heidenheim (0: 1) there was no home victory in this disastrous second half of the season.
Wolfsburg’s sports director Peter Christiansen promised a “fresh wind for the players” by the temporary transport of the 42-year-old farmer. In front of 20,245 spectators, however, it was only possible to feel something at the beginning of both halves.

Even before the 1: 1 VfL goalkeeper Kamil Grabara prevented the possible balance three times: in a shot of 19-year-old Bazoumana Touré (11th), after a nice solo by Adam Hlozek (25th) and in a free kick by Tom Bischof (33.).
And a pressure phase of the VfL quickly fizzled out right after the break. After that, the Hoffenheimers again awarded several good occasions to save themselves a fearful look at Berlin on Saturday afternoon.
The Agile Hlozek failed again on the strong Grabara in the 58th minute. In the 70th minute, Wolfsburg’s defender Denis Vavro in the penalty area blocked a shot from Anton Stach just in time. Marius Bülter (73.) had the best chance. But from just five meters, the 32-year-old shot far over the goal from the turn.
This exploitation of opportunities almost took revenge when it was 2-1 for Wolfsburg nine minutes before the end. But of all people, the TSG saved at least a well -deserved point after its loss of ball before the 0-1 and the gross chance awarded. Wolfsburg missed the late winning goal (90th +4) through a post shot from Konstantinos Koulierakis.
