Now don’t think of a pink elephant! Arcade Fire have never been the most subtle band in the world, and so every interpretation approach for the album title can also be easily related to the current situation of the band. As a reminder: In 2022, Frontmann Win Butler was accused of sexual misconduct and abuse of power by several people. Everything mutually agreed, Butler said about a crisis consultant, and he was in a shitty time, so something like that happens. So that you sleep with almost adult fans, to which there is a massive power weight. Régine Chassagne, co -founder of the band and Butler’s wife, stood with him, the band continued.
And now the pink elephant: Should he stop the audience from thinking about the allegations? With a mystical synth intro, which is reminiscent of emergency sirens, the band now opens its seventh album, in order to result in the title song “Pink Elephant”, a nostalgic-hopeful piece with the choirs and almost sacred sound walls, because of which one once fell in love with Arcade Fire. Not so bad!
After the zero point it goes on! Also danceracks such as “Circle of Trust” and aggressive noise like “Alien Nation”. Find space, but “Year of the Snake”, a programmatic piece about rebirth and new beginning, is a duet between an almost whispering chassagne and a calling butler.
