The Kiel submarine builder Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) wants to build further submarines for Singapore.

A contract for the construction of two other type 218SG submarines was signed, the company said in the morning of Thyssenkrupp. The TKMS record order book is currently growing with around 16 billion euros. The order expansion can be handled as part of the existing capacities in Germany, despite the high load, until the 2040s.

Four more submarines

Previously, the small but rich Southeast Asian city state had already had four submarines built in Kiel. At the end of 2022, the then Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Singapore at the time took part in the baptism of two submarines.

The four boats of the Invincible class are 70 meters long and are among the largest submarines that have been built in Germany since World War II. They have an external air-independent fuel cell drive. They are designed for a crew of 28 men and women.

TKMS claims to be busy until the early 2040s. In December, the Bundestag budget committee approved the construction of four other submarines of modern class 212CD for the German Navy. The order volume for the German units alone is 4.7 billion euros. According to previous TKMS, Norway has already signaled to want to increase the number of submarines.
