Housing corporation Lefier is going to build two apartment complexes on the site of the Nicolaïflats demolished last year in Emmermeer. The new construction is good for a total of 66 apartments. Construction starts early next year. The whole is expected to be completed at the end of 2027.
The apartments are ground floor and are 2-room apartments (20 pieces) and 3-room apartments (46 pieces), making them suitable for various target groups.
As early as 2022, Lefier announced the demolition of two of the total of five nicolaïflats present in Emmermeer. The adjacent land -bound rental properties would also be cleared. In total there were 48 apartments and another eight family homes on Meerstraat and Nijkampenweg.
Both flats, designed by architect AC Nicolaï, rose in the early 1950s in the neighborhood that is under construction. As a reason for demolition, Lefier was supposed to be the age and moderate insulation of the buildings at the time. There are three more complexes of the same type in the neighborhood. Lefier has not yet announced any plans, but demolition and new construction is not unlikely at these locations either.
Lefier has indicated that it is planning to maintain the Bouwstamp, conceived by Nicolaï,. In short, the stones will be located within the same surface of the current flats.
In recent years, the corporation has been keeping the broom through the housing stock in the oldest district of Emmen. A project was recently completed at Valtherlaan, in which 66 homes were completely renovated. Earlier this year it was announced that Lefier 54 homes and 16 garage boxes in the vicinity of Magninstraat and J. van der Veenstraatwijk will demolish and replace it for new construction.
