The long interruption around Kevin Müller’s injury overshadowed the Bochum game in Heidenheim on Friday. It wasn’t the only dangerous scene.

Bochum’s striker Philipp Hofmann had to be operated on Friday evening. The 32-year-old had been replaced after a collision with Heidenheim’s Marvin Pieringer after only ten minutes. Hofmann had complained about pain and breathing problems.

As VfL Bochum announced on Saturday, he contracted a broken rib in the collision, with the injured rib drilled into the rib fur and triggered a lung collapse. The club spoke of a “quite life -threatening” situation. “Only the prudent medical care and the immediate investigations and the action in the local hospital owe it to Hofmann that nothing worse has happened,” says the message.

With the help of a thoracic drainage, the injury was relieved and the lungs were made functional again. The season ends prematurely for the striker, Hofmann will no longer be able to take part in the next two games.
