Schalke trainer Kees van Wonderen has to leave the club with immediate effect. The club itself confirmed what the “Bild”, which “WAZ” and the TV broadcaster Sky unanimously reported. Sports director Youri Mulder: “In particular, the occurrence and development in the past two weeks give rise to worry.”
After the 0-2 home bankruptcy against SC Paderborn on Friday, which could have been higher, there was a crisis meeting of the club bosses around sports director Youri Mulder. “The situation is very serious,” Mulder was also quoted on Friday. “We will think about everything, that’s for sure. We have a responsibility towards the club. It is about the club and not about individuals.”
Statements that pointed out an immediate separation and now also resulted in action. Van Wonderens in summer has been decided for two weeks. Actually, the Dutch should still sit on the bench at the remaining games. But the way Schalke recently appeared did not like the fans or the executive floor.
Schalke has been without a win for four games, the relegation is not yet secured. Even a crash in 15th place would have followed, because then Schalke would play in the amateur pot of the DFB Cup, which would mean a strong primary opponent.
Jakob Fimpel takes over the last two league games. The U23 coach, who had already been sitting on the bench in the first half of the season, will now be the games against Düsseldorf and Elversberg Schalke Coach. “We are very grateful to Jakob that he takes on this task that is of great importance for the club,” said Mulder.
