The public prosecutor of West Flanders has since appointed a traffic expert to investigate the precise circumstances of the accident. The first findings show that both the cyclist and the car drove in the same direction. Probably the cyclist wanted to turn left at the time of the accident, after which the collision took place.
The driver of the car, a man of 77, is said to have held to the permitted speed according to the first findings.
