1/4 Silent journey for deceased villager (45): ‘Her life has been taken away from her’

Hundreds of people walked along in Wanroij on Wednesday evening in a silent journey for the fellow villager who was found dead in her house at Easter. That same day the ex-husband of the 45-year-old woman was arrested.

Young and old had come to church for the silent journey, because the impact of the crime in the village of about three thousand inhabitants is great. Just like the defeat. A woman tells in tears that the victim was her girlfriend’s best friend. “When I heard it, I hoped it wasn’t Maartje … Her life was just taken away from her.”

“I am here from compassion, I can’t do more,” says one of the participants in the Silent Tour. She doesn’t know what to say. “I have no words for it.”

Because the tour went through the entire village, traffic controllers and agents stopped traffic. After a half -hour walk, flowers were laid at the woman’s house.

What exactly happened in the house on Molenstraat on April 20 is another mystery. The police can still say nothing about that.

The emergency services pulled out en masse to the house along the provincial road N602. A trauma helicopter also landed, but all the help came too late for the resident of the house.

Her ex-partner, who also comes from Wanroij, was arrested later in the evening as a suspect in Duiven in the province of Gelderland, some sixty kilometers away.
