Whether the malfunction of today is the same problem as Monday and Tuesday, the province spokesperson is not yet sure. “We thought it was resolved,” she says. The sensors have been adjusted again, but the bridge refused again this afternoon around half past two to close.
What is striking is that the problem always seems to play around the same time. On Monday and Tuesday, the bridge also remained open for hours. Then a sensor turned out not to be properly adjusted. Whether that was due to the heat or by vibrations of use is still being investigated.
“We have now deployed extra people and the technical service is busy finding out what is going on,” said the spokesperson.
“We deserved well”
Due to the malfunction, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians cannot use this important crossing over the Zaan for the time being. Everyone must therefore temporarily choose a different route.
An entrepreneurial group of friends managed to set up a spontaneous ferry service on Monday and Tuesday for hordes of tourists and other lands who had to get their flight or train on time. They were brought to the other side for five euros. “I think we have transferred 350 people,” 17-year-old Hugo van Buschbach tells NH. “We deserved well.”
Later today a report follows the unexpected ferry service.
