The scene around a head injury by Oliver Baumann made minds at the weekend. Now it is even worse for the DFB keeper.

Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann will be out for the time being. A head injury from the stoppage time of the Bundesliga game against Borussia Dortmund forces the 34-year-old to take a break. Hoffenheim now has to do without his captain in the end of the season.

As the club announced, Baumann suffered a concussion. The diagnosis followed after investigations in the hospital. In the scene for the 3-2 winning goal for Dortmund, the Hoffenheim goalkeeper had got the knee of Carney Chukwuemeka on his head. In doing so, he contracted a grazing wound and a bump and initially did not really get back on his feet. Nevertheless, the game continued. Shortly afterwards Waldemar Anton scored for BVB. Referee Benjamin Brand recognized the goal despite the loud protests of the Hoffenheimers.

In a statement by the TSG, Baumann commented critically: “My diagnosis shows an example that on the lawn it is about the security of the players, who can even carry out consequential damage from such situation,” he said: “Therefore, in the interest of the health of the players, there can be no two opinions in the event of possible head injuries to interrupt immediately – regardless of how the game situation is at this moment.”

TSG sports director Andreas Schicker was affected. “Oli’s concussion hits us really hard,” he said. “Not only that we have lost the game against Borussia Dortmund through an irregular goal from our point of view, our captain and support in the TSG goal in the end of the season is also canceled.”

Before the game at Borussia Mönchengladbach, the TSG is in 15th place on Saturday – and is not yet sure.

It is open whether Baumann will also be missing from the German national team. On June 4, the Nations League semi -finals against Portugal are on the program for the team of national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
