ORTtawa, April 28th (askanews) – Canada votes for the early election of the new members of the Federal Parliament who, according to the latest polls, will see the liberal party of Prime Minister Mark Joseph Carley (center -left) and Pierre’s conservatives then contend for the victory. Elections that take place in an atmosphere of strong tensions with the United States for commercial restrictions on Canadian goods imposed by the US President Donald Trump and its provocative proposal to annex Canada as a 51st state of the Union. The first polls of January showed the liberals at a disadvantage compared to the conservatives of over 20 points, but “the Trump effect” changed the scenario. A recent survey by Lege Marketing placed the liberals at 43% of the consents, a little ahead of the conservatives (39%), with Carley ahead of 10 points as a favorite prime minister.
The early vote recorded a record participation, with 7.3 million Canadians who have already voted in the early vote between 18 and 21 April, with an increase of 25% compared to 5.8 million early votes of 2021. Elections Canada recorded a high turnout in all provinces, demonstrating a high involvement in what is perceived as one of the most important elections of the last decades for the country.
