At the weekend, a shock scene around the Union Berlin’s Diogo attracted attention. Now it is clear: the season is over for him.
Union Berlin has to lead the rest of the Bundesliga season without Diogo Leite. The defender suffered a serious injury in 1-1 against VfL Bochum.
After a shot from Bochum Matúš Bero, Bleit suffered a larynx fracture-a break in the cartilage. The ball had hit him with full force on the neck. Bleite immediately went to the ground, had to be treated for minutes and then brought off the square with a stretcher. Union announced on Tuesday that the 25-year-old will pause for several weeks for security reasons. This ends his season prematurely.
On Monday, Leite had traveled from Bochum to Berlin by train. Just a day later, he was in a good mood to train his teammates on the edge of the square.
The Portuguese was one of the festive sizes on the defensive of the Köpenickers this season. In the remaining games, veteran Kevin Vogt will probably go back to the starting eleven for him. Union meets on Saturday (3:30 p.m.) in the stadium on the old forestry on Werder Bremen.
