With Bayern, Carsten Jancker became a champion several times as a professional. As a coach, he has been active in Austria so far – and will continue to be.
Former German international Carsten Jancker has a new job. In the future, the 50-year-old will train SK Austria Klagenfurt. The Austrian Bundesliga club announced this on Sunday.
Klagenfurt had previously responded to the sporting crisis in the qualification group of the league. After the clear 0: 6 defeat at the Linz ASK, the team crashed to the penultimate place in the table. The descent threatens. The result: those responsible separated from the previous coach Peter Pacult. The decision was made the day after the game.
In the club announcement, Jancer himself emphasized that he had respect for the new task. However, he “is also really looking forward to it and I am proud that those responsible for Austria Klagenfurt give me their trust in this challenging phase,” said the ex-Bayern star. For him and his team, it is now about “conveying the necessary self -confidence and belief in their own strength”. The professionals have already proven their quality. “It is important to appear with passion and courage. Then we will make it.”
Meanwhile, Klagenfurt’s managing director Sport Günther Gorenzel declared the decision against Pacult, who had been in office since 2020, and Pro Jancer. The situation had been analyzed, and after the violent Dutch in Linz, slept over the matter for a night. “The way we presented ourselves there, but also before at the WSG Tyrol and in the home game against the LASK, how the team broke into their individual parts,” said Gorenzel, who at the same time turned the look ahead: “Carsten Jancker has our full trust and receives every support to get the team back on track.”
Jancker led his first unit on Monday. “It felt really good to stand with the boys. Of course you can feel a certain tension, after all, the situation overall is not easy,” he said afterwards. “We have now pressed the reset button, we have to loosen from everything that distracts and focus on the next task.”
Klagenfurt remain four games to avert the descent. On Friday, the duel is on the plan with the same table last in the table.
Jancer had played as an active professional in the Bundesliga for 1st FC Köln, FC Bayern and 1st FC Kaiserslautern. With the Munich team, he became four German champions between 1996 and 2002, won the DFB Cup twice and once the Champions League and the World Cup. He was also successful in Austria and became a national champion with Rapid Vienna in 1996.
With the German national team, Jancer took part in the 2000 European Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands as well as in the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. As a coach, he acted at various clubs in Austria from 2010. Most recently, the former striker had trained the regional league team DSV Leoben.
