Kiev (dpa -AfX) – Despite the other reports of Russian military, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj speaks of continued fights of his troops in the Russian region of Kursk. “Our units continue active defensive operations in the (Russian) regions of Kursk and Belgorod,” Selenskyj wrote in a contribution to the fighting on the platform X. At the same time, he reported on other fights at Pokrowsk and Kramatorsk in Eastern Ukraine.
The Russian military, on the other hand, claimed that the Kursk region was “completely liberated”. General chief of staff Waleri Gerassimow had the Russian President Vladimir Putin Registered on Saturday that all Ukrainian units in the Kursk region are defeated and that only individual Ukrainian soldiers “tried” to hide.
Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin on the phone with his generals in the afternoon and congratulated her on the success of the liberation of the Kursk region. “Putin congratulated them on victory and thanked them for their heroic work,” the agency Interfax quoted the Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow.
A precise and independent overview of the situation in the region was not possible.
The Ukrainian armed forces had surprisingly pushed across the border to the Russian area near Kursk in the summer of last year. The aim of the operation was to force Moscow to make troops and take the Russian pressure from the fronts in eastern Ukraine. The Russian military had recaptured large parts of the occupied areas at Kursk in months of severe struggles.
The Ukrainian General Staff rejected the reconquest of the Kursk area, which was declared by Russia, as a “propaganda move” by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin the day before. The fights continued not only in some parts of the Tersk area, but also in the neighboring Russian area of Belgorod, the general staff in Kiev said on Facebook with./cha/dp/nas
