Rob Mcelhenney and Ryan Reynolds have reason to be happy: their club Wrexham has risen again. The Premier League is getting closer.
The Welsh tradition AFC Wrexham has continued its impressive promotion run: On Saturday, the team secured the direct promotion to the championship with a 3-0 (2: 0) against Charlton Athletic. On the penultimate matchday, the third -class League One achieved the third promotion in front of the eyes of prominent club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney.
With 89 points, Wrexham is in second place behind the sovereign champion Birmingham City (102 points). This means that the association can no longer be displaced from the direct ranks of ascent. For the first time since 1982, the “red dragons” are again second -class – the Premier League is therefore only a further climb.
Two years ago, Wrexham had returned to English professional football after 15 years of absence. After climbing to the League One, the club is now going up. The takeover by the prominent US actors Reynolds and Mcelhenney was decided in November 2020 by coordinating the club members, in 2021 the official purchase was made for around 2.8 million euros.
Since then, public interest in Wrexham has increased significantly. A documentary series produced by Reynolds and Mcelhenney made the club known worldwide. Wrexham toured the United States last summer and competed in test games against Manchester United and FC Chelsea, among others.
