At the Common Court of Justice, 3 new members are appointed: AJJ (Sander) van Rijen, M. (Marloes) Woerdman and EJ (Ellen) van Rijssen. The Rijksministerraad has agreed to the nominations for appointment on the proposal of State Secretary Struycken (legal protection).
Mr. Van Rijen will be appointed as a location of Aruba as of 1 August 2025. He will be part of the Civil Law section. Now Van Rijen is a councilor in the Arnhem-Leeuwarden Court of Appeal. He was previously a member and vice president of the Common Court. Before that he was a vice president and commercial court at the Rotterdam District Court and Counselor Deputor in the Den Bosch Court of Appeal.
Mr. Woerdman will be appointed to the Common Court on 15 August 2025, also in the Civil Law section. Her location will be Curaçao. Woerdman is currently a subdistrict court judge in the Noord-Holland court. Earlier she was a judge at the Amsterdam court and examining magistrate at the Noord-Holland court.
Mr. Van Rijssen will be appointed to the Common Court on 1 September 2025. It will be part of the Criminal Law section, with Curaçao as a location. Her current position is a senior judge in the Central Netherlands court. Before that, Mr. Van Rijssen worked as a lawyer at the National Ombudsman and held various judicial positions at the Court of Central Netherlands, including the position of examining magistrate.
The Common Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and Van Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba provides the judiciary on the islands. The judges at the Common Court of Justice deal with civil matters, criminal cases and administrative matters (including tax matters), both at first instance and on appeal. The Common Court is also involved in Special Judiciary Colleges (such as for civil servants) and in lectures in charge of disciplinary law. The Court consists of judges in local service and sent judges.
