Delegation to Enkhuizen
After the necessary preparations it was time this afternoon. A whole delegation traveled to Enkhuizen, with the Drommedaris – the southern entrance gate of the city. Frits has been playing there since 1980 as the carillon as a city carillonard.
The plan was clear: while Claude stood with a pianist downstairs in the Drommedaris, Frits would play the carillon at the top of the bell tower. A drone would film it through the window so that it would be visible in the clip.
But that went differently. “In the end it was too dark in the tower,” says Frits laughing. “The drone couldn’t get me into a good picture. You now only see the tower and hear the Geklingel – but I am not visible.”
No nerves
Yet that does not detract from Frits’ enthusiasm. He is still very happy with his – as he calls it – “modest role.” He finds it not exciting, even though the clip will soon be viewed by a million -dollar audience. “No, I’m not nervous,” says the carillonneer soberly. “Fortunately I don’t have to do it live.”
Moreover, the meeting with Claude made everything right after the recordings. Frits played the entire song Solo for the pop artist. And that was well received by him. “He thought it was fantastic. He was really beaming and even filmed it,” the carillonneur proudly concludes.
