The duel started. Then Stuttgart turned up – just to leave a number of chances against Heidenheim. The guest met shortly before the end.

The 1st FC Heidenheim presented Stuttgart in the narrow relegation battle of the Bundesliga with a win in the “Self -Design Shop”. The team of coach Frank Schmidt won at VfB through a goal by Mathias Honsak in the 89th minute with 1-0 (0-0) and added the sixth home defeat to VfB.

Honsak gave Heidenheim the first victory after three defeats in a row with his dream goal, the relegation rank 16 is secure for the time being with 25 points ahead of Bochum (20) and Holstein Kiel (19). Stuttgart, on the other hand, can concentrate entirely on the cup final on May 24th. The Bundesliga record of eight home defeats in a row that was held by Tasmania Berlin and Hansa Rostock can only fall in the coming season.

VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth had warned of an “all-or-not game” before the game, “we will prepare for a Heidenheim existence.” The Schmidt-Elf also started briskly and with passion. Adrian Beck put the ball past the goal after ten minutes – but was offside.

With a driver Deniz Undav, who had received advantage over Nick Woltemade, who was entitled to play again, Stuttgart took over more and more command. Undav also introduced the best chance of the first half with a plug-on pass to Hemedin Demirović-Heidenheim’s goalkeeper Kevin Müller reacted brilliantly in one-on-one (31st minute). 8: 2 goal shots for VfB were the proof of clear superiority at the break.

After the change of sides, it got much more lively – and finally more dangerous. While Stuttgart pushed for the lead, Heidenheim defended and was dangerous for counterattacks. A header from Patrick Mainka landed deflected by Jeff Chabot on the Latte (56th), on the other hand, Demirović could not use another Undav template (59.).

In the final phase, Heidenheim pulled himself back and at least wanted to take the point with them. Stuttgart ran headlessly in phases and desperately looked for a gap – without success. The substitute Woltemade also had bad luck on a chip (80th). Shortly before the end, Honsak simply pulled off – the rest was cheering.
