The Northern Netherlands District Court has decided that a 20-year-old man from Heerhugowaard will be stuck for fourteen days longer in the investigation into the art robbery from the Drents Museum in Assen. This is the man who was searched for a long time and was shown on images from a hardware store in Assen.

The man was arrested last Wednesday and is in full limitations, which means that he may only have contact with his lawyer and may not receive or share information from outside.

An 18-year-old fellow was arrested on the same day. He was released after interrogation, but remains the suspect in the case. A 36-year-old man from Alkmaar, who was arrested on 15 April, has since been released, but still counts as a suspect.

In total there are seven suspects in the study. Four of them are still stuck. The court will decide on 9 May in a public hearing in Assen or their pre -trial detention will be extended. During that session, the Public Prosecution Service also gives an update on the state of the investigation.

The search for the stolen Romanian art treasures is still in full swing. Finding the stolen work remains a priority for the police and the judiciary.

At the end of January, the Drents Museum was broken into. A number of art treasures from Romania were stolen. The pieces were part of exhibition Dacia – Rich of silver and gold. It is about the golden helmet of Cotofenesti and three gold bracelets. If the golden helmet and bracelets are not found, the Dutch government can look forward to a claim for damages. It concerns an amount of 5.8 million euros.
