Daniel Altmaier was the first German tennis professional at the ATP Masters in Madrid.

The 26-year-old Kempener lost in the opening round against Chilean Nicolás Jarry, as a world ranking 57. Ten places better positioned than Altmaier. 3: 6, 2: 6 was said after a disappointing performance from the German qualifier.

At the masters in Monte Carlo at the start of the clay court season, Altmaier had fought himself into the round of 16, where he only failed due to top star Carlos Alcaraz, who did not compete in Madrid due to an injury. Against Jarry, Altmaier did not find his game from the start and had nothing to oppose the strong forehand balls and hard serves.

Struff later against van de Zandschulp

Germany’s number one Alexander Zverev (Hamburg), as the top -led player of the tournament, only intervenes on Friday in the second round. He meets the experienced Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (37). Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) contested his first round match against the Dutchman Botetic van de Zandschulp on Thursday.
