In the Champions League, the next control revolution could soon be a good time. Three essential changes should be discussed.

It was only at the current season that UEFA fundamentally reformed the Champions League by allowed 36 instead of 32 teams and abolished the group phase in favor of a league. Further regular revolutions could be due to the coming season. As the “Sport Bild” reports, UEFA could soon advise further changes based on feedback from the clubs on the new format. It should primarily be about three ideas.

On the one hand, the room is in the room to abolish the extension in the event of a draw in the ko rounds and to walk to the penalty shootout immediately after 90 minutes. The idea is to reduce the burden for the players a little.

According to the report, a second possible change concerns home rights for the second legs in the KO phase. For example, the teams that end the league in table positions one up to eight and thus qualify directly for the KO phase could play at home up to and including the semi-final against poorly placed opponents in the second leg. So far, this home right rule only applies to the round of 16.

This resulted in this season that Arsenal, for example, had to compete in Real Madrid in the quarter-final secondary, even though the Londoners had achieved better placement of the table. In the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal has to play away again in the second leg, although PSG was significantly worse. In the second semi -final, FC Barcelona has to compete with Inter Milan despite better placement in the second leg.

A third possible change affects the so -called country protection according to “BILD”. Currently, teams from the same country can meet immediately after the league phase. For example, FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen had to compete against each other in the round of 16. However, since such duels are not optimal for fans and for TV channels, as in the old Champions League format-in the future, it could only be possible in the country-internal duels from the quarter-finals.

As the “Bild” report, the club competition commission could decide on the changes on May 30th and then propose to the UEFA Executive Committee.
