Coby Kooistra is a care volunteer and checks whether the stock is in order in a room before a new patient comes to stay. “I was a caregiver for my mother for 12 years and wanted to give something back,” she says. “I help people in bed, in the bathroom, make breakfast and conduct conversations. We ensure that people have it as pleasant as possible here.”
Appelona Klarenbeek agrees, while she smears a cheese sandwich for a patient. “There is always a lot of work to do and if there are not enough volunteers, there is not enough time left to have a chat with the guests. A background in healthcare is not necessary, we have all received internal training.”
