A town hall, smoke torches, fireworks and fireworks pelted with eggs: the first major protest against the arrival of an AZC in Berlicum, the municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel cost 7650 euros, reports DTV Nieuws. During the demonstration on March 20, a man also threw a Cobra to the town hall. A day later someone hung pig legs at the fence where the AZC would be.
Just cleaning the town hall and Meanderplein costs 2250 euros. Extra security guards also had to be deployed on 19, 20 and 27 March. Those extra costs are 5400 euros. It is not known what the extra costs of the police deployment are, so the total cost is actually even higher.
The 7650 euros is paid from the general resources, so that the costs are indirectly recovered from the residents of the municipality. The money for the ‘general resources’ jar is filled from municipal taxes, such as the property tax.
A day before the protest that got out of hand, there was also a protest during an information meeting about the AZC. The activists then threatened that more demonstrations would follow and “it won’t stay here”.
Sint-Michielsgestel decided to stop the AZC process after the protests. “Given the social and political unrest and the disproportionate impact on society as a whole, the mayor and aldermen think it is necessary to stop the current process,” the municipality then reported.
These costs became known after written questions from the Municipal Fraction of Dorpsgoed.
