The biathlon season 2024/25 had already run prematurely for Venla Lehtonen. The Finn has now spoken out with a positive update.
Her recovery “took almost three months,” wrote Venla Lehtonen on the Easter weekend on Instagram. In a last test she received “good news”, according to the Finn.
“My body and heart have completely recovered and I can now start training for the next season,” said the 30-year-old her positive update.
Lehtonen had had to stop the past biathlon season prematurely. The Finnish ski hunter was missing, among other things, at the World Cup in Lenzerheide.
“I was unlucky in January when I first fell on a gastrointestinal flu and shortly afterwards at the flu,” Lehtonen described on Instagram in early February.
Lehtonen is looking forward to upcoming biathlon winter
The biathlete stated at the time: “I am physically well, but the disease unfortunately triggered a slight inflammatory reaction in my heart.” You have to “recover and rest now.” Nothing came of a hoped-for comeback at the end of the biathlon season. Now Lehtonen can prepare for the coming winter.
“These few months were quite a roller coaster of feelings. I had to face a lot of difficult feelings and fears. Processing the situation, accepting it and thinking about how I can make the best of it,” Lehtonen told me a lot.
It is “important to see more in life than just biathlon, even if it is one of the most important things for me and is a great passion of mine. My family and friends listened to me and supported me. I am grateful and happy to be surrounded by so many loved ones, whether it is going well or not – they are always there,” said Finn.
“After almost three months in which I only made Pilates, yoga and walking, it feels incredibly good to be able to return to normal training and also my normal life,” added Lehnen. She feels confident and looking forward to going “back to work”, the biathlete wrote.
