For a long time it seemed that AZ would go back to Alkmaar with the KNVB cup. However, a goal in the last minute and the subsequent penalties caused a sad end. The grapes were extra sour for Peer Koopmeiners. The midfielder made unhappy hands, so Go Ahead shot the equalizer from the dot. “A lot is happening.”

The 24-year-old Koopmeiners was visibly excited after the game. “If you still have a minute to go and you think back afterwards, I would have done it very differently now,” says Koopmeiners at the penalty moment. “That hurts a lot now and we couldn’t change anything anymore. This is a shame. I’m going to see how I’m going to give this a place.”

Teammate Sven Mijnans also presented the final differently. “This is really disappointing. Worse than this could not have been. We still create a lot of opportunities in the last minutes. We did not finish that well. Afterwards it will be quiet in the dressing room for a long time. You can lose, but this is extra painful.”
