On Easter Monday, the Visser’s community commemorates the fishermen who died at sea. One of them is Glenn Vandewalle, who at the beginning of this year fell victim to a tragic accident on board the Zeebrugge 45: “On January 5 at 11 pm he fell overboard. He drowned. In January the water is cold. Fortunately we found him.
Valuable tradition
Every year the fishing families are invited to commemorate their loved ones who died at sea. This tradition is a recognition of people with a sailor grave. About two hundred people attended the annual ceremony. Once that was a multiple. It is a ceremony that also appeals to people outside the fishing community.
