Felix Magath has confirmed that he will actually run as President at Hamburger SV. Many HSV fans would have prompted him.
Player, assistant coach, head coach and manager was Felix Magath at Hamburger SV. Now the club idol has completely different ambitions to the top team of the 2nd Bundesliga: Magath wants to become president. This request seeped through the week and was now confirmed by the 71-year-old.
“I have been busy with people since last summer and have met with people from time to time to talk about it,” Magath said to the television station of “Welt” and “Bild” and added: “I think: I am the right HSV president for the next few years.”
As was previously unveiled in media reports, he officially applied as the new president, who will be elected on June 21 at the general meeting, and now has to wait and see “whether the advisory board permits or whether I am not allowed”.
The constant encouragement from the fan scene had a large proportion of his candidacy. He was “spoken out again and again” during his visits in Hamburg: “Oh Mr. Magath, you have to help HSV! Oh Mr. Magath, you will come back, the HSV needs it. This was how it went in a tour,” revealed the 306-time HSV professional.
“Now I slip into a role that I want to be chosen – I feel a bit uncomfortable,” the 71 -year -old described the new challenge.
HSV: Golz wants to be Vice next to Magath
The former HSV goalkeeper Richard Golz is applying for the position of Vice President. In a joint mail that the “dpa” found out, Magath and Golz announced their candidates by press release.
Magath had repeatedly brought up for management posts at the HSV in the past. A year ago, the 71-year-old was also traded as a sports director. The decision then fell on Stefan Kuntz.
Magath is one of the defining players of the HSV in its most successful time at the end of the 1970s and in the 1980s with three German championships and the winning of the European Cup in 1983.
Later the European champion was also a manager and coach of the club before successfully working on other clubs such as FC Bayern Munich, VfL Wolfsburg and Schalke 04.
