Biathlon World Cup Finals: Showdown in Oslo – Biathlon – Winter Sports

A long biathlon season comes to an end this weekend. At the Holmenkollen in Oslo, the decisions about the awarding of the large crystal globe for winning the overall World Cup and the small crystal globes for the discipline ratings are pending.

To have a say here, the improvement in form of the German skiers this winter came a little too late. And so for Denise Herrmann, Benedikt Doll and the others it’s all about a decent end to the season and about going into the well-deserved summer break or – in the case of Erik Lesser – into well-deserved biathlon retirement.

Only Öberg can still endanger Röiseland

As far as the overall World Cup ranking is concerned, the decision has already been made for the men: The Frenchman Quentin Fillon-Maillet can no longer be caught in the remaining races. He is the successor to Johannes Thingnes Bö, who will no longer compete in Oslo.

In the women’s category, everything boils down to Marte Olsbu Röiseland’s first overall World Cup triumph – her performances this season were too dominant and too constant. Chaser Elvira Öberg from Sweden will still try everything to intercept Röiseland. She is currently 82 points behind the Norwegian.
