Potential end positions

The first decisions in the 2nd Bundesliga are emerging, if not yet in the promotion race. There is still plenty of movement possible. We look at the potential final placements of the clubs in the season finale of the 2nd league, where there is a close and point -poor struggle for the upper places. We look at the relegation battle of the 2nd league here.

The 2nd Bundesliga seems to be miles away from a decision by the question of ascent. Five game days before the end of the season can be at the top of the HSV at home against Braunschweig (2: 4). Also thanks to the low score of the HSV, which is as low at 52 as before with a league leader of the 2nd league before the 30th matchday (Nuremberg 2003/04). The rise or reach at least of the relegation place is currently theoretically possible for no fewer than 14 teams.
Around zero despite the arithmetic option, the prospects of Greuther Fürth to 14 or Darmstadt and Hertha in 13th and 12th place to do something with the ascent. And Schalke, too, should only take the calculator in the hand very soberly. In contrast, the view of 10th place shows how crazy this second division season is. Karlsruhe can theoretically descend as the current tenth, but also become first.
The deficit of the KSC to relegation place-the significantly more realistic perspective than a direct climb-is only six points. Magdeburg, Kaiserslautern and Paderborn last weakened, and Düsseldorf and Nuremberg play too inconsistently, of which SV Elversberg benefited massively in April. The Saarlanders have the relegation place and the direct promotion places in view as the most powerful team for the last three game days. “We just don’t have to do anything,” explained coach Horst Steffen before the recent victory in Hanover (3-1). Before that, the SVE Jahn Regensburg had sent home 6-0 (second division club record). “We can participate here and enjoy it when we are successful,” Steffen indicated, which may have a decisive relief looseness of his team.
However, if things run very badly for the SVE, you could also be passed into the lower half of the table. But this also applies to the second in the table 1. FC Köln and league leader HSV, who will compete at Schalke on Saturday evening and have to shake off the sobering 2: 4 against Braunschweig. “It does not help us if I’m afraid to lose something, that is the completely wrong approach,” coach Merlin Polzzin evaluated the risk of missing the promotion goal after the shock result against the relegation candidate. A comparatively light remaining program against teams is waiting for the HSV, which on average are currently not better than 13th place. Elversberg meets an average placement of currently 9, including Schalke.
The S04 impressively demonstrated that the royal blue can also roll up a field from behind in the last promotion season 2021/22. In the remaining games of the current season, you still have the opportunity to slow five teams that are in front of the tight ones. However, the Gelsenkircheners faced themselves on the past weekend when Jahn Regenburg was given new hope in the relegation battle in a 0-2 loss in the Upper Palatinate (for the possible final placements in the descent battle of the 2nd division).
