After the announced change from Markus Högner to Borussia Dortmund, the SGS Essen has filled the coaching position for the next season. The previous assistant coach takes over.

Women’s football Bundesliga club SGS Essen will go into the coming season with Robert Augustin as a new team leader. The 33-year-old is previously assistant coach and assistant to the outgoing head coach Markus Högner. From summer, Augustin will take responsibility for the daily training process, as the table ninth announced.

The new coaching team is completed by Britta Hainke as assistant coach and Thomas Gerstner. In addition to his task in the coaching staff, he should also take over the newly created position of the sporting director.

As early as February, the SGS announced that Högner would leave the club at the end of the season after twelve years. In the future, he will be responsible for the Borussia Dortmund women’s team, which is currently fighting for the promotion in the fourth-class Westphalia league.

Gerstner was already head coach

“After the farewell to Markus, it was important for us to form a coaching team that is made up of different characters and has experience and expertise in many different areas,” said SGS Managing Director Florian Zehtschler, according to the club’s announcement.

While Hainke previously worked in various functions at FSV Gütersloh, Gerstner was head coach at MSV Duisburg until the end of the 2023/2024 season.
