The THW Kiel used the first title chance by winning the DHB Cup, the second is gone. Due to the 34:36 (14:18) in the Bundesliga top game on Wednesday evening against the Foxes Berlin, the German championship is no longer an issue.

The THW Kiel simply has too many minus points (16) on the account. Four teams – Berlin, Melsungen (both 10) as well as TSV Hannover -Burgdorf and SC Magdeburg (both 11) – have significantly less. The Kielers offered a strong combative appearance after the burden of the final Four, but ultimately they stood empty -handed as in the first leg (26:35).

“The last connection up is gone.”
-THW professional Rune Dahmke

“I think in the end you already noticed a bit that we were missing the grains,” said THW left-winger Rune Dahmke in an interview with the NDR. “It is incredibly bitter that we do not win here, but we have put everything in what we still had. And then we can be proud of it for a bit.”

The “last connection up” is now over, admitted Dahmke. “Something can still happen, of course, but I think that today was actually our last chance to look at the top.”

For the THW, the Bundesliga continues on Saturday evening (7 p.m.) with a game at Frisch on Göppingen. The next meeting with a north club is waiting for the foxes on Sunday: Then TSV Hannover-Burgdorf is a guest in the “Fuchsbau” at 3 p.m. The game can be seen on NDR.de in the live stream.

THW professional Madsen collects double time penalty

After a huge applause for the new DHB Cup winner, the game immediately offered extremely high intensity. The play -free Berliners came into the encounter last weekend and, thanks to a hit by world handball player Mathias Gidsel, took the lead for the first time with three goals (11: 8) in the 18th minute.

Shortly afterwards, at 10:12, Kiel’s Emil Madsen made it even more difficult for his team to unnecessarily worse than it was already. After the 24-year-old Danish back player had received a two-minute penalty, he wrote the audience on the way to the replacement bench through hand movements to express his displeasure with this decision. The punishment was directly doubled for this unsportsmanlike.

Foxes more lively than the “zebras”

However, the “zebras” came quite well through the four -minute outnumber – thanks to Elias Ellefsen á Skipagötu. The 22 -year -old Faring playmaker took on responsibility and met. At 11:13 (24th) he overcame Füchse goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev with a remarkable forearm throw.

However, the lively foxes had the stronger final sprint in half one: two seconds before the siren, Mijajlo Marsenic provided the first four-goal lead of the guests with the 18:14. However, it was not yet done: for his criticism of referee decisions, THW coach Filip Jicha also received a time penalty that had to serve one of his players at the beginning of the second section.

Kiel keeps struggling …

After the restart, Tomas Mrkva stood between the posts at the Schleswig-Holsteiners. Andreas Wolff had shown some good parades in the first round, but overall he had remained under his possibilities. The Kielers were now fully fighting: from 15:20 they came to 20:21 (37th), and another four-goal deficit did not mash them. Patrick Wiencek scored 31:32 (55th).

And shortly afterwards Wolff had succeeded against Nils Lichtlin the third seven-meter parade: he had his hand on the ball, but he jumped over the goal line. When Patrick Wiencek failed in return to Milosavljev and lighted light on the 34:31 lead of the guests (57th), a point win was apparently far away for the THW.

… and in the end loses scarce

And when Domagoj Duvnjak threw 55 seconds before the final siren at 33:35 from a free position over the Foxes goal, the home defeat had then become practically at the certainty. The most successful Kiel were Eric Johansson and Madsen with six goals each.
