The BVB wanted to create the miracle against Barça and started the game furiously. However, the performance was only enough for a royal class party with an exclamation mark.

Borussia Dortmund flew out of the competition in the quarter -finals of the Champions League. The team of coach Niko Kovač defeated FC Barcelona 3-1 (1-0) on Tuesday evening in the second leg, but had to surrender 3: 5 in total. The mortgage of 0: 4 from the first leg weighed too heavily, but BVB showed the potential.

Dortmund added the first defeat after 24 competitive games. All the more annoying from a BVB perspective that the duel may be the last in the premier class for a long time. The previous year’s finalist has to qualify through the Bundesliga and needs an immense chase there.

Striker Serhou Guirassy gave BVB a dream start when he scored 1-0 (11th minute). Shortly after the break, he put the second goal (49th), the way to the semi -finals against FC Bayern or Inter Milan suddenly didn’t seem far. But an own goal of Ramy Bensebaini (54th) gave the home team a bitter damper. After Guirassy’s third goal (76th), the fans hoped again briefly.

Dortmund had started dominant, ball winnings and forced completely atypical bad passes for Barcelona. The first goal by Guirassy soon followed the 2-0 by Pascal Groß (16th), which did not count due to offside. Then Bensebaini gave a big chance (20th).

The Dortmund fans had long since taken their initial reluctance, they celebrated every duel won and every successful action. This inspired the team that opposed the individual class of Barcelona players with force and determination.

BVB thus annoyed the almost powerful opponent, even the artist Lamine Yamal the ball promised to take a simple assumption. But from nowhere Fermín López appeared freely in front of the Dortmund gate. The BVB was lucky that the shot was over (26th).

Apart from that, Dortmund, who again played with a defensive chain of three, was largely under control. However, BVB now also went less forward than in the initial phase. Barcelona helped for more security that the game became more and more torn in this phase. When the BVB had space, it played straightforward and directly towards the opposing goal. The fast Karim Adeyemi and Maximilian Beier came to the ball several times near the penalty area, but their passports and shots were not precise enough.

After the break, BVB immediately pushed for 2: 0, the Adeyemi and Groß first missed. Guirassy then pressed the ball over the line. But then suddenly disillusionment spread: Bensbaini grown into his own goal after a cross from Jules Koundé.

With all commitment, this was a difficult goal. To believe in miracles again, Dortmund would have had to quickly add 3-1. Barcelona seemed closer to the equalization, and BVB was increasingly waning – until Guirassy brought a hot final phase. The fast 4: 1 by Julian Brandt (79th) was withdrawn due to an off -the -sided position.
