A 31-year-old woman from Vught has received a 120-hour community service sentence from the judge to enter a 71-year-old woman on a pedestrian crossing in her hometown. The older lady died in the hospital the next day. The public prosecutor demanded a higher punishment, but the judge assumes that it is a one -off error.

The woman came in November 2023 with her car from the Laagstraat in Vught and took the exit towards Kempenlandstraat on the roundabout. There she drove the older woman who was crossing the pedestrian crossing. The driver stated that she had never seen the pedestrian at any time. It rained, it was dark and it was busy on the road. Only at the blow did she realize that she had hit someone.

The injuries of the woman initially seemed to be better than expected, but all alarm bells went off at night in the hospital. Bleeding and swelling appeared to have originated in her head and the woman died the next morning.

Driven
According to the judge, the accident could have been prevented if the woman had paid better attention and drove more cautiously. She was familiar with the traffic situation, knew that immediately after leaving the roundabout there is a pedestrian crossing and that she could expect pedestrians there. Especially considering the weather conditions, she should have adjusted her speed. Instead, she pulled up correctly when leaving the roundabout.

One -off
The Public Prosecution Service demanded a 240 -hour community service and a one -year driving denial, but the judge deviates from that. The suspect is a single mother and has psychological complaints due to the accident that makes her incapacitated for work. After the accident, she also immediately contacted a surviving relative to express support.

The judge assumes that it was a one -off error and therefore imposes half of the community service and the driving denial conditional. So this as a stick behind the door.
