For theft from a house in Emmen in a 23-year-old Groninger sentenced to three months in prison. Apart from the theft case, he is seen by the Public Prosecution Service (OM) as the main suspect in a large cyber crime case.

The man was demanded for five years in prison for help desk fraud, committed from holiday parks in Drenthe and in the Veluwe. Next Friday the ruling is in this extensive case. The public prosecutor called the conduct of the four suspects in the cyber crime case at the time ‘nauseating’. On Monday, the Groninger was taken out of his cell to stand with a 25-year-old man from Valthermond for the theft in Emmen.

A resident at the Mussenveld in Emmen noticed in September 2023 that he had had an unwanted visit in his home. Stuff had disappeared. The man hung cameras and September 21 the camera registered two men in his house. The duo brought a PlayStation and a sum of money.

The resident told the police that he had been held hostage and forced to give up his house key. In the police investigation there was too little evidence for a hostage and theft with violence. Based on the camera images, the suspects were only on trial for the theft from the home. A criminal offense that is always the same as a burglary.

The agents recognized the two suspects in the men in the images. However, they strongly deny. The images were shown during the court session, both suspects did not recognize themselves. The judge thought differently about that. “Among other things, I recognize the glance, I see a strong resemblance,” she said.

The public prosecutor demanded a six -month prison sentence. The judge kept it three months for both. This has to do with the difference in the guidelines used by the OM and the court. The men, however, have to pay the declarant a damage amount of 3700 euros.
