At Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, striker Dejan Joveljic once got no feet on the floor. In the meantime, the attacker kicks very successfully in the MLS. Last weekend, however, he showed two faces.
First fantastic, then miserably: The former attacker by Eintracht Frankfurt Dejan Joveljic experienced a change of feelings in the 2: 4 defeat of Sporting Kansas City against Portland Timbers.
At first it seemed as if the 25-year-old could be significantly involved in the point win of his team. At 1: 2, Joveljic took responsibility in the 33rd minute when his team was attributed to a penalty.
He demonstrated nerves made of steel: with a sight-worthy Panenka lupfer, he made the ball over to Portland goalkeeper James Pantemis to compensate.
Joveljic was once hired by Eintracht Frankfurt at the age of 19 for four million euros by the Belgrade Club Roter Stern. Half a year later, however, the striker talent was awarded again, first to RSC Anderlecht, later to the Wolfsberger AC.
In the summer of 2021, the SGE decided – Joveljic has been on a measly four Bundesliga games since then. At Los Angeles Galaxy, he scored 45 goals in 123 competitive games in three and a half years. Last February he continued to Kansas City.
Ex-Stuttgart and ex-hamburgers cannot prevent bankruptcy
After ten games, he is already in five goals. But his Panenka goal should not bring the hoped-for turn against Portland: shortly after the break, Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy (49th) met, just five minutes later the guests increased by an own goal of Jansen Miller to 4-2.
Kansas head coach Kerry Zavagnin reacted immediately and brought fresh staff-also with Bundesliga past. For the attack came Erik Thommy, the defense reinforced Tim Leibold.
Thommy switched from VfB Stuttgart to the Americans in the summer of 2022. In the Bundesliga, he had completed 96 games for the Swabians, Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Augsburg. So far, 88 missions (16 goals) have been added to the MLS.
Leibold also has VfB past, in 2015 he was first moved from the Ländle for four years to the 1. FC Nürnberg. Then the left -back switched to Hamburger SV. 32 Bundesliga and 148 second division games are in his vita.
In the point game against Sporting Kansas City, the two former Bundesliga players could not provide the turnaround. Instead, player Dejan Joveljic had the chance to score again after a second penalty was awarded in added time.
However, the seven -time Serbian international missed this pitiful – it stayed with the 2: 4 final score.
